Parental
Education Session

What it was

Routine sessions educating parents on the growing issues of cyberbullying, along with social media trends that we could see potentially posing risks to youth.

who it was for

A total of 70 parents joined during our soft-launch phase.

when it took place

Our first parental education session, and first ever public event, was held on September 1st, 2023.

Importance & Outcome

We understand how impactful social media and online interactions are to youth; the BFFC team is made of current students and recent grads. Social media is constantly evolving with new platforms and features gaining traction every year. Community members, such as parents, play crucial roles in addressing and preventing bullying as they may be the youths’ first direct source of support.

By focusing on awareness and educating parents on modern bullying issues, we hope to strengthen their ability to understand and provide the appropriate first steps when their child is faced with online negativity.

Peer Support Program

What it was

Routine checkups with youth to provide guided and personal advice. All sessions are active through Zoom or other online meetups, ensuring flexible accessibility and confidentiality of the individual’s concerns and personal information.

who it was for

Any students or children seeking a more private approach to support, or those that may be intimidated by large group settings.

when it took place

Any day from Monday to Friday since the organization’s soft-launch to the public, on August 15th, 2023, with Peer Support Sessions scheduled based on clients’ needs.

Importance & Outcome

Our Peer Support Program is designed to offer a safe and supportive environment to those in need. We understand that sometimes speaking with a professional can be intimidating—that's where we come in. Through our trained peers, we offer extensive care, guidance and a judgment-free zone for the youth and children. We aim to provide counselling services to help victims of bullying and do our best to resolve any issue that is at stake.

This approach takes time and dedication. So far we’ve taken on and continue to provide guidance to 10 children coming from a diverse range of backgrounds.

UBC Health Initiatives Seminar

What it was

This panel acted as a full rundown of our org, history, goals, and methods. We showcased how the current bullying space has changed and the solutions our org has implemented in response to these changes.

who it was for

Current university students and members of existing UBC mental health clubs curious about our organization.

when it took place

April 6th, 2024

Importance & Outcome

The post-secondary student demographic holds strong influential power when it comes to building connections and trust within younger generations. Because of this, we want to provide avenues for involvement through sharing experiences.

Through our panel, we aimed to increase awareness of the prevalence and seriousness of bullying, awareness of our organization and our programs, and indirectly spread cautiousness to any younger relatives university students may have.
